My students need assorted bean bags, plastic cups, ping pong balls, grip mitts, a tent tunnel, plastic balls and scooter boards to engage in our physical fitness circuit training and obstacle course.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Like many of us, my students need all the help they can get.
Many are thriving regardless to how little they have while others need all the extra support we can send in their direction.
Because my 5th grade range in academic and physical abilities, I am constantly trying to find ways to scaffold lessons and cater to their varied learning modalities and needs while making sure they have all the skills and are challenged to think critically and creatively like their counterparts who live in more affluent communities. We all live by John Wooden's motto. "Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can."
My Project
Inspired by ESPN "wanting to help provide students with access to sports in schools across the country" I thought this project would be an excellent way to motivate my 5th graders who are getting Spring Fever and "Senioritis." With the acquisition of these sports supplies, I will be able to engage my students in a series of highly energized circuit training and obstacle course play.
Research has clearly demonstrated that having a healthy body is worth it's value in gold in terms of that translating to a healthy mind.
We will provide a venue for the students to let out all of their pent up energy on the blacktop. After engaging in a series of warm up exercises, the students will get into teams to crawl through tunnels, roll through cones, dig through plastic balls, to name a few. We will begin with teacher created obstacle challenges. As the students get acclimated with the materials and the intentions, they will then create their own circuit training exercises to strengthen their core and then create obstacle challenges for themselves and their classmates. Every single student will be active, engaged, and getting physically fit.
