Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school consists of over 700 students in preschool through fifth grade. Almost 90% of our population is considered low income and qualifies for free lunch. Our school represents a wide range of cultures.

My students are newcomers from another country and struggling readers that come to the learning center on a daily basis to receive extra support in language development and reading.

Although they struggle to read independently, they enjoy read-alouds and shared readings where they are able to engage in rich discussions that lead towards making connection, partner sharing, retelling stories or sharing newly learned knowledge with their peers through different collaborative groupings.

My Project

My students vision for the Kinect Sensor is that the entire class will become more physically active. They will exercise indoors with the Kinect Sensor. Interactive games that require movement are a great way for students to be engaged while also becoming fit. The Kinect (which tracks movement) will promote more physical activity. Students will increase their cardiorespiratory fitness, spatial awareness, coordination, and muscular strength. They will also learn team work and how to work with other students. The lessons associated with the Xbox can include workouts and dance routines that can promote all of the above aspects of physical education. While using the Kinect Sensor, students will track their activities and calorie count with the Fit Bands. Students will play dodgeball and use the cones to create court sidelines. The parachutes the students will use to train for their running training.
