My students need 2 sets of exemplar texts. Exemplar stories serve as an excellent skeleton to hang the flesh of our reading process skills on each day.
Exemplar stories serve as an excellent resource for our reading process skills on each day. As we develop these skills, such as fluency and word study, these texts illustrate proper grammar, figurative language and complex sentence structures.
Our students, a diverse group of mostly lower quartile students (under-performing), represent many low socio-economic families.
Research has long proved that these families use fewer words than more financially comfortable peoples. Our students desperately need to hear, see, read and use the type of vocabulary found in these exemplar text.
My Project
With the addition of these books to our classroom, our students will be using words most have not seen before reading these wonderful books. Meanwhile, the fact that the texts are aligned with Common Core will help us teach the concepts while exposing them to exemplary works: a definite win-win situation.
This project enables our students to see how great authors use story elements to shape the meaning of the story.
These authors spin tales with such craftsmanship, that the characters and plot help us see the conflict as well as the resolution. Please help our students see the resolution through the window of Common Core.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
