My Students

Our third grade class is made up of an amazing group of students including ESL, gifted, special needs and dyslexic children. Our school is in a high poverty school district. Funds are often not available for extra materials needed in the classroom.

Many of our students are at-risk and receive free or reduced price lunches.

Often, they come to school without the supplies needed for class. In spite of these hardships, they are eager to learn and absorb information like sponges.

Their futures are bright and they work hard to learn the things they need to know in order to be successful. These students love coming to school and being with their peers. Everyday, they come into class ready to learn something new and excited!

My Project

Most of my students are from low socio economic families and do not have access to books outside the classroom. It is so important to give these students exposure to awesome authentic literature that they can relate to, learn from, and enjoy. They are often struggling readers and need good literature to help keep them engaged in their reading. They can read these books during independent reading time.

My bookaday program has them reading a picture book everyday just for fun.

They learn so much through my questioning and are making so many great connections through these books. We need these books to continue this program successfully!
