My Students
This is my first year teaching in a Special Education district in NYC. My students are in middle school with a variety of disabilities. This includes Autism, Dyslexia and Emotional Disturbance. My students are focusing on a variety of goals: academic, physical and social. The goals look different for each of our students.
After being at home during the pandemic, my students are returning to in-person learning!
Some of my students are working on manipulating small words like "car", others are working on counting money, others working on using calming strategies in high intensity situations, with many other goals in between.
Since each student is working on different goals, I'm going to need a plethora of hands-on materials to support my students' needs! Simple worksheets will not suffice.
My Project
A class iPad will be used in so many ways for my students.
iPads are a HUGE motivation for my students.
When my students are successful with a task, they earn a 'paw'. When a certain number of paws are received, they get to choose a reward! Our most desired reward is educational iPad time. Help my students reach their goals!
iPads can also offer a "brain break" when a student is feeling overwhelmed.
Especially in the age of distance learning, there are TONS of apps to help support my students' education. A class iPad would allow my students to take full advantage of digital resources.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
