My Students

Everyone is concerned about how students will learn this upcoming school year. There is so much uncertainty. One thing certain I do know is that I am going to love my new students coming into the 3rd grade, and I want to give them the best possible school year I can. Though students won't be able to physically attend school, we will learn together and lift each other up. Kids are learning all the time and constantly inspire us!

This project will help provide some necessary school supplies so students and their families have one less thing to worry about.

We are an urban school that celebrates diversity. Our student population includes a mix of African American, Latino, and Asian Pacific Islander students. We serve English Language Learners, support special needs through inclusion, and provide strong social-emotional support to all students. Additionally, over 75% of the students attending our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

Can you imagine being 8-years old, stuck at home for the past four months, then hearing that school will be distance learning in the fall? The global pandemic is hard enough for adults, so imagine what it feels like for kids. The goal of this project is to give students some exciting new materials to start their 3rd grade year!

Let's give kids brand new markers in lots of colors, colored pencils, and writing folders that are completely their own!

My vision is for students to be so excited to receive these "back-to-school" packages that they cannot wait for 3rd grade to begin. We will use the markers and coloring pencils to do community builders, sketch scientific drawings, create art, and publish writing. Students will also use post-its and pencils to write about their reading or make revisions to their writing. Dry erase markers can be used for math lessons, word study, and team builders. My hope is that students will be inspired by these materials to create and build on their knowledge and ideas - and who knows, maybe they will come up with their next DonorsChoose project!
