This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom desperately needs books. Nonfiction, leveled books that are interesting, engaging, and accessible for my diverse first graders.

My classroom is located in the southwest area of Denver.

We are in a diverse and loving community, but more than 93% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, and many of them are struggling to learn English in school as a second language. Our school is very young. This is only our third year being open, and as a result we are still working hard to build a full classroom library and supply sets for our deserving students. We simply don't have enough lower level, high quality texts for beginning readers. My leveled library shelves are sadly stocked with 'hand me down' texts, multiple copies of the same book taken from guided reading sets checked out from our school library, and photocopied books printed off the Internet. My young emergent readers deserve much better.

My Project

This grant is for leveled nonfiction library books that will support my readers who are on Kindergarten and beginning First Grade levels. They are nonfiction, which is of high interest to all my students, and especially helpful to my English language learners. Finally, they are multidisciplinary, covering Math, Science, and Social Studies topics. This resource would be a huge support for our classroom library, and would benefit each and every one of my students, as well as classes for years to come.

Please consider donating to this very important cause.

My students need appropriate books to be able to improve their reading skills, and your simple donation can make that a very real possibility. Thank you!
