My Project

My students come with high hopes to learn and succeed in their future, but are disadvantaged by their disability. We have access to a 3D printer but need to supply our own filament for projects. This will be extremely beneficial in being able to print manipulatives that will provide needed hands-on experiences and representations. We can also print custom pieces or replace lost or missing pieces.

We can print manipulatives at 80% of the cost when compared to purchasing the commercially made equivalent.

My students struggle to grasp symbolic concepts. We would be able to print manipulatives or arrays for a better understanding of concepts, like multiplication and division. We would be able to print tiles for area and perimeter. We could print shapes to work on geometry, volume, and surface area. We could print fraction bars and 100's place grids to be able to manipulate fractions and decimals to aide in understanding, equivalences, and computation. My students will be able to collaborate, design, and build. We will be able to print therapeutic devices or sensory items for students with autism. My students will be able to print and sell objects using classroom money to practice their skills. In language arts, we would be able to print historical or other objects from the text we read. Students would actually be able to visualize an object as they write and describe it. Having filament for the printer will aid the students in having tangible objects to be able to have a meaningful understanding of concepts, think more deeply, and write with greater clarity.
