My Students

"The teenage brain needs seeds that matter to it." By the end of the school year, I want my students to be able to independently and proficiently read complex texts. Our novel study will assist in the development of their active reading strategies to meet my goal.

My school is 98% free and reduced price lunch, and my students live in high poverty.

They cannot afford to buy their own class novels. Yet, they are highly engaged and want to reach toward success! Our class motto is: Excelsior! We deserve Excellence! They believe they deserve the best and your donation will help them realize that.

My Project

If we receive the class set of novels, all students will be able to annotate and closely read and interact with their text. "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is a highly engaging novel and is relevant to students' lives, so my students will be able to connect easily to the novel. They will also use active reading strategies and metacognitive skills to further comprehend the novel. By reading the text, many of my students will have read their FIRST book. Make this a reality!

If my students receive these novels, they will get one step closer to passing the End of Course exam for English II; therefore, they will become one step closer to graduation.

This novel will change their views on reading novels. Their perspectives are bleak about reading currently, yet, at the end of this year and with the novel being read, their views will radically change about literacy. And we know that reading leads to success! Let's change a life!
