My students need 13 solar oven kits in order to investigate solar energy and its uses in poor areas of Africa and Haiti with our sister school in Evreux, France.
What if you didn't have an oven or stove to boil water or to kill the bacteria in your food? Many people around the world suffer from this problem. Our students are working to understand the perspectives and problems of these people.
My students fall into grades 9-12.
They are both French and American students working internationally, over the ocean, to learn together about the uses of solar energy. These students attend comprehensive high schools and have opted to add French, Environmental Science, and courses in Sustainable Development to their already challenging course loads. These students, together, will work towards a solution to disease through the use of solar ovens in Africa, working directly with the charitable organization, Village Life Outreach Program.
My Project
These solar ovens will be used when our French counterparts visit us in May. We will do a cross-cultural in-school field trip to study the benefits of solar ovens and solar energy in poor African and Haitian towns. Village Life will visit us and discuss their uses in these towns. Students will use these solar oven kits to discover first hand the ease of usage in a poor village.
This project is not only about solar ovens and solar energy, but about creating international connections to our sister school in France.
We are proud to host them in the spring and hope to bring an real-life simulation to our school.
