Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have grit! Character. Spirit. Perseverance. Passion.
Everyone has a story.
My students may only be 9, 10 and 11, but they already have a lifetime worth of stories to tell. It is my job to provide them with the tools to help them refine their storytelling.
I am one of the lucky people who enjoy going to work every day, so I am happy to be part of the 99%. My students are free spirits and are sponges waiting to soak everything up. They attend school in a densely populated part of the city.
My Project
For the time being, students are engaged in virtual learning. In order to provide the best instruction and have access to all the materials I need to fully show my students what they need to know, I have been teaching from a classroom from school. However, having outdated equipment has been an enormous hinderance. A new updated iPad to support remote learning will serve two main immediate purposes. Students must be assessed online on mclasshome. This data is needed so that students can be grouped and individualized support can be provided during remote small group learning. This tablet will have updated software needed to run the probes off the testing site. Additionally, when not testing, the iPad will serve as a document camera which will provide another much needed angle to show students how they are expected to engage in hands-on learning.
Studies have shown that if students do not succeed in elementary school, many will not make it through middle school and will become a part of the high school dropout statistics.
This is why we have to do everything in our power to make REMOTE LEARNING work!
Furthermore, I plan to use the tablet to download apps to support financial literacy during some synchronous instructional math time. Covid has changed the way we buy, save, spend. Your support will help fill some achievement gaps in providing financial and mathematical literacy to our future generation. May giving them the basics provide hope that they can be engineers and architects and not destitute to a life working at a minimum wage job.
