My Students
I serve students in a self-contained autistic support classroom. The students in my class have diverse needs and require a high level of structure and evidence-based instruction and behavioral supports in order to achieve full potential. They come to school each day ready to be challenged to reach for the next bar, which looks different for each of them. Some of my students are learning to write their names. Others are learning names for common objects like shoes and pencil. Still, some others are working at-grade level and trying his or her very best during their inclusion time with their same-aged peers in regular education.
The students in my classroom deserve materials unique to their learning needs.
Each DonorsChoose project is selected with this in mind. A lot of times, the materials accessed through generous donations wouldn't be otherwise available to these students in any setting. For them, the materials we have in our classroom make a big difference!
My Project
Students in a self-contained classroom require evidence-based assessments to inform their individualized educations. Middle school students are an incredibly diverse group with a substantial range in level of ability. Our instruction focuses on meeting each student at their current level.
Students work to increase their skills across all domains - academic, behavioral, adaptive, and social/emotional.
Quality assessments allow each student's Individualized Education Program team to make a more informed decision regarding what is best for each student. Some students require multiple assessments and others require specific types of assessments. This again speaks to the diversity of need but more so the importance of the availability of a variety of appropriate assessments.
