Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Inquisitive minds, warm hearts, helpful hands, and sponges for brains-these are just some of the ways you could describe the students that walk through our classroom doors each day.
Our students, with limited English skills, live in a high-poverty, big-city community where the goal is to help them blossom into productive learners and speakers.
Their willingness to work hard and achieve is evident in all that they do. They may come from homes where paying the rent and buying food is the priority. Therefore, it is so important for us to support them in as many ways as we can to give them every chance to succeed.
My Project
By adding pencil cups as an organizational tool to a room full of 8 year olds will benefit them in multiple ways. These days students may be doing more work online, but they still do work with pencils, erasers, and other traditional communication tools.
By having their pencils and other supplies organized and handy, right at their finger tips, it will keep them on task and learning more.
When math requires them to shade graphs in different colors to have a visual understanding of the concept, they won't have to stop, look through their desk for their pencil case, unzip it, find three different colored pencils inside, zip it closed, put it back, and then pay attention to the task. Instead, their colored pencils will be easily seen popping out of the pencil cup on their desk. What a simple but helpful organizer they are.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
