My Project

As part of our 11th Grade American Literature curriculum, students explore key themes that define the American experience—identity, family, race, culture, belonging, and the pursuit of the American Dream. To deepen our understanding of these themes, I am seeking copies of Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. This powerful novel provides a modern lens through which students can examine the complexities of American identity and values.

Set in 1970s Ohio, the story centers on a mixed-race Chinese American family struggling with loss, societal expectations, and generational misunderstandings.

Through the characters’ experiences, students will critically explore issues such as racial identity, assimilation, gender roles, and the pressures of achievement—all of which remain deeply relevant in today’s America.

This novel allows for rich classroom discussion, personal reflection, and interdisciplinary connections to history and social studies. By including diverse voices in our curriculum, we affirm that American literature is not a static canon but a living, evolving dialogue that includes all perspectives. Everything I Never Told You gives students a more inclusive view of what it means to be American.
