My Students
Do you remember all the things you learned in kindergarten? Everything you really need to know was learned in a kindergarten classroom! You learn how to share, play fair, clean up, saying sorry...and READ!!! My students are curious and eager to learn how to read.
My students come from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Many of my students are English Language Learners or have speech and language needs. The school that my students attend is located in the heart of a bustling city. Our school is the only public school located in the downtown district. The majority of my students live in a high poverty neighborhood, living in SRO's (single room occupancy) with more than one family, transitional homes, etc. Our school is just a block away from the county jail. A majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite the odds that my students have against them, they are incredibly resilient and are eager to learn.
My Project
Kindergarten is not what it used to be with naps and play time. We are getting our future doctors, lawyers, teachers ready to embark a great life. My dream for my kindergartners is for them to receive an education that inspires them, engages them, encourages them to think critically, and prepares them to succeed in college. These resources you will be providing will allow my kindergartners to learn how to read in a developmentally appropriate way. The basic fundamentals of reading starts with learning the alphabet and its sounds. These activities will provide the kindergartners with hands on materials that will intrigue different learning styles and provide opportunities to develop these skills.
Donating to this project will ensure that students gain access to hands-on language arts materials such as Learning Letters Activity Folders, Write and Wipe Alphabet Practice Cards, Wikki Stix Alphabet Cards and more that introduce foundational reading concepts in a way that engages and inspires students.
Additionally, these materials will last for several years, so your donation will impact the reading education of many kindergarten classes!
