My goal as a teacher is to find ways to constantly reflect who my students are in our classroom space, in the texts that we read, and the learning happening daily.
The art materials added to this project will ensure that my students always have the colors needed to represent the diversity and beauty of themselves, their friends, and their families.
Basic school supplies provided by our school district do not include these diverse color ranges.
When choosing books for this project I had a few goals. The first goal was to improve the diversity in my teacher read aloud collection. The second goal was to increase the amount of diverse and bilingual books available to students in our classroom library. Lastly, I wanted to add books that would help scholars to learn about themselves as well as help them to understand and process the impacts their backgrounds of poverty and trauma in an age-appropriate way.
