My Project
I want to create a welcoming classroom that represents a variety of cultures. Last year my students found books that represented their culture and were amazed. I want to amplify that throughout the classroom visually and add it into our art projects.
A multicultural classroom will benefit from a visually welcoming environment.
I want all my students to see themselves represented. I also want a variety of books that are targeted to what may be familiar to them. I began this endeavor with the acquisition of used books. I will need bins to house them within view of the students. Any reason to get a 4th grader to read is a win.
I plan to incorporate art and various mediums for students to express themselves when they cannot verbally as a reset or calming effect. This requires drawing supplies, paper, glue and the material to preserve them and display.
I also want to teach my students about the school's namesake. Many students have no idea who our school is named after and why.
