Exploring our environment together helps us to gain a greater understanding of the skills being taught. We believe that self-assessment and peer editing also help us to think deeper about our understandings. These are essential components of our daily routines.
My students are first graders in a talented and gifted school.
Their academic abilities vary greatly, and it is important that instruction and activities are differentiated to meet their individual goals and range of needs. Our school is a tight-knit community where teachers work closely together and students engage with each other on a consistent basis to delve into their learning. We believe that working collaboratively is vital to our scholars' success.
My Project
Some of my students do not have their own supplies, such as erasers and colored pencils. Each table group in my room will have a table caddy that coordinates with their group's color. These caddies will be filled with materials, including the erasers in this project as well as the red pencils. It is important that students have access to erasers so they can self-correct and edit, and the red pencils will be used for peer editing. Both of these items will help students to produce high-quality projects. Also included in this project is a digital timer, which I will implement during times where students are working, so they can begin to understand the concept of time more thoroughly when completing an activity or project.
This project will help my students to assess their own work and to edit with a peer, which will encourage their academic success.
Having caddies with materials available will allow my scholars to have access to things they need. My students will feel more independent and confident that they are able to achieve success.
