My Project

I am a Special Education Teacher in Colorado, and I am interested in tools that support and engage our students while helping them to excel in school.

Creating sensory-friendly classrooms is essential to accommodating students with sensory needs, such as autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, and other conditions that may cause sensory sensitivities.

Sensory-friendly classrooms aim to provide a supportive and comfortable learning environment by addressing sensory triggers and promoting sensory regulation. Classrooms may be equipped with sensory-friendly materials, including fidget tools, weighted blankets, and sensory bins filled with textured items like sand or rice. These materials can help students self-regulate their sensory experiences and manage anxiety or restlessness. The weighted ball is a tool that supports self-regulation and is an easy tool to have in the corner of the classroom. The iPad and pen will also create opportunities for students to use apps that support their education and self-regulation. This tool will also support us in gathering data on IEP goals, allowing us to improve targeted instruction.

Our students in special education are special because they demonstrate resilience, determination, and unique talents that enrich our educational community. Their diversity adds depth and complexity to our classrooms, and they can achieve remarkable success by providing them with the necessary support and resources.

In conclusion, the specific items we request for this project will make a substantial difference in the education of our students with special education, sensory, and academic needs. By focusing on the progress of IEP goals and providing the necessary tools and accommodations, we aim to empower these students to reach their full potential. Our commitment to inclusivity and individualized support reflects our belief in the capabilities of all our students, making them a valued and integral part of our educational community.
