Everyone Deserves A Voice

Help me give my students a sturdy table to allow me to be close to them so that I can provide tactile feedback to help them shape their mouths to say their speech sounds correctly.

My Project

I am a speech pathologist in a small rural school district. The kidney shaped table in my room has a broken leg and is very unsteady. I need to be able to lean on my table to reach my students to help give them tactile feedback in order to learn how to shape their mouths to say their sounds correctly. That is very hard to do with my broken table. There are no extra tables at my school.

A sturdy table will help my students balance their upper bodies to project their voices and shape their mouths with my touch to learn to speak correctly.

Many of my students have low muscle tone and rely on multiple senses to speak. They need a sturdy foundation for their upper body. I have to use my feet under the table to try to keep it from moving while I teach my speech lessons. We also try to pair the sounds we learn to say into writing. Writing can be a challenge using my wobbly table.

I would love to provide my students with the resources that they need to find their voices and be heard. Every voice matters. Please help me to help them reach their full potential. Speech is important because it enables people to express their wants and needs, thoughts and ideas, argue a point of view, develop their use of language and writing and engage in successful interactions with others. Imagine having so much to say, only to be misunderstood.
