This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a very low income urban area and attend a Title I school where every student receives free breakfast and lunch. More than 85% of the students at my school come from Hispanic and Latino backgrounds and are learning English as a second language. Many of my students do not have computers, tablets, or internet access at home and do not have the means to obtain access to online tools that promote learning in all subject areas. Many of my students' parents are not literate, which means that in most cases, the only reading and writing supports my students receive are here at school. My school's budget allows for desks, chairs, and (on occasion) paper, pencils, and basic office supplies. Teachers at my school must provide any additional furnishings, learning tools/supports (such as manipulatives and games), as well as technology for their individual classrooms.

My Project

An art class is a place for imagination, creation, and endless opportunities. I want your help to make my students feel inspired each day they enter my classroom for art class. Students will bring their imaginations to life with basic materials like colored pencils, crayons, oil pastels, and sketch paper. Using these supplies, students can breathe life into anything they can dream up! We will study basic design, sketching, perspective, shadow and lighting.

In art class, the possibilities are endless with the right materials!

Students will also develop their fine motor skills as we use plastic sewing needles and yarn to learn the basics of sewing and weaving to create bookmarks!
