My students need tablets to communicate their answers and share their work with the class. Students also need them to save their work to an e-portfolio.
Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. This quote goes directly with why my students need tablets in the classroom. You can teach a lesson and students will remember but for how long? The tablet will get students involved in learning.
My students are in the 6th and 7th grade.
They have the ability to learn but they just need extra guidance to get there. They love anything to do with electronics but unfortunately we don't have the funds for laptops or tablets for our students. My students mostly come from low income homes and have had a hard life but they still keep on trying to do better for themselves.
My Project
Students will use the tablets as a mini whiteboard / slate to record their answers. In all lessons, the tablets will be used as a tool to take formative data using Google forms created by me to use as an assessment. To find out what they learned that day and what they still need help with. Students can play online math/ELA games (that do not require Adobe Flash Player) correlated with the Common Core Standards. Students will read high interest novels and engage in online virtual Literature Circles to discuss, analyze and interact with the texts. Students will also be able to go on virtual field trips.
The tablets will help me efficiently collect and utilize data in lesson planning and execution.
The rigor of the curriculum will be enhanced through higher order thinking skills, problem solving and group work. Collegial collaboration will be increased through shared use of the tablets and e-portfolios.
