This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what it was like scoring your first basket, goal or touchdown? Or when you learned to hula hoop? It is very rewarding to see those smiles and high-fives when our students experience this for the first time.

We are a K-6 school in Arizona.

Our population is very diverse with over 70% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our students love going to PE! They have PE 3 times a week for a total of 135 minutes. Because of the tough economic times, we have seen the number of students who participate in after school sports, such as Little League, Pop Warner, YMCA Sports drastically decrease. Because of this, it is very important to keep them active during PE and recess. These students deserve the best and believe in our school's motto of "Be Classy" : Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Ready to Learn.

My Project

We are requesting basic PE equipment that is essential for a quality PE program such as: footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, foam balls and hula hoops so that we can continue to focus on skills like throwing, catching and kicking while incorporating cardio respiratory endurance. With more equipment, the students will become more engaged in the activity because there will be less waiting around. We have had many adults observe our PE classes and their feedback usually sounds like "we never played these types of fun games when I was in PE." We teach the basic skills, but in fun and innovative ways. Not always the traditional games. You should be able to observe any class and they are laughing & giggling while fully engaged in a moderate to high level of physical fitness.

For many students, PE is the only time where they can come and play!

We see all of our students 1st-6th grade for 135 minutes a week. It is very important for us to maximize this time so that we can create positive attitudes towards lifetime fitness and health. That is why everyBODY needs PE!
