This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach art to elementary school students in a small but diverse neighborhood. Our community is very supportive of education but often cannot provide adequate resources for students due to the cost.

This is my second year teaching in a low-income school and I never appreciated the challenges of teaching until now. My students love the art projects that I create for them. I would like them to experience as many forms of art as possible. Clay is one medium that all children love to work with and so many don't have the opportunity because of the cost. It not only is a great lesson but it helps build motor skills that many of my children need.

I would like boxes of air dry clay to use with all grade levels in my school. Children who are in kindergarten need tactile experiences to build skills in the classroom while my fifth grade students learn to problem solve with each new medium they encounter. While working with clay is certainly a fun experience, I view 3D art as a necessity for a well-rounded education.

Working in a school community where the needs of student learners are so high and our art budget so low, this small amount of money would make such a difference in the quality of our art programs. No Child Left Behind requires teachers to focus on test scores and the core curriculum which is important. However, a well-rounded education needs to include the arts. Many of my students don't have art supplies at home and I'd love to be able to provide them with a proper art classroom where they can create beautiful work.
