As a physical education teacher, who also teaches dance in the Bay Area, I am excited to share my passion with my students! Starting next year, we will be offering a new elective called Hip Hop Dance. With this new elective, my students will be enjoying a fun workout while building a sense of community where they feel accepted and confident through the power of music and dance.
Dance can positively affect the student’s well-being and spread positivity to those around them.
The ripple effect of our Hip Hop Dance class can create a better world for us all! My students are creative, musically motivated and passionate about dance. Bringing students together to create and collaborate on a common interest such as hip hop dance, also helps to develop deep personal bonds, a sense of community and strong school culture.
It’s a fact that there are numerous health benefits of dance. If I can expose my students and have them become hooked on dance as a physical exercise they love, it will become a passion and a form of fitness that can last a lifetime! Let's change the world one beat and dance step at a time!
My Project
By adding mirrors to the walls, it will help give the classroom a dance studio atmosphere. Mirrors allow dancers to observe their own posture, be aware of spacing between their classmates and see visual cues from the teacher. Having a sound system is a high priority to our new class. Music and speakers are the important components of a great dance program and will keep the students engaged, energized, motivated and wanting more.
