This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In our sixth grade math class, we celebrate student growth, perseverance, collaborative group work, and creative thinking. We celebrate the process of doing math more than the product. Our lessons pose problems that invite a variety of approaches.

Our sixth graders come to our middle school with a wide variety of achievement levels.

In our class, our young mathematicians engage in learning experiences on computers that are dynamic and interactive as well as experiences on paper that are flexible and creative. Tying our math learning to real-world problems is a daily occurrence. Some of our favorite learning experiences use Desmos activities, 3-Act math tasks, and math games.

My Project

During our weekly Advisory period (a homeroom-type class that emphasizes community-building), teachers are given flexibility to decide on the activities they do with students. Inspired by my students' enthusiasm to engage in kind acts during our 2022 Kindness Week Challenge, I would like to provide them with some tools to make every week Kindness Week!

The trash grabbers will be used to clean up our schoolyard, showing kindness to our earth and our custodians.

The button maker will be used by students to create small gifts for their peers. And making friendship bracelets is a very popular and soothing activity, especially for students who seek a quiet, independent focus during lunch time.
