This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 3rd–5th grade artists love bringing their ideas to life through drawing and design. One of their favorite projects is creating anime-style self-portraits, where they explore identity, expression, and representation. To make these portraits truly personal, we use special skin tone markers that allow students to find shades that match their own unique skin color.

These markers are more than just art supplies.

They are tools for belonging and creativity. Each marker is labeled with a hex code, which sparks conversations about graphic design, digital art, and how colors are represented in technology. Students not only gain confidence by seeing themselves reflected in their work, but also build skills that connect traditional art to digital design.
