This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I do not want to JUST read books; I want to climb inside them and live there!" This is exactly the feeling I would like to instill in my 1st graders.

My students are first graders who have a desire to absorb as much information through books as possible.

Currently, they attend a Title I school in which most of the population is of low socioeconomic status. Last year our school qualified for free breakfast for all every day. However, our school is still a magnificent place to learn and grow.

My Project

My students need quality fiction and nonfiction texts to build basic reading skills so that they can increase their literacy skills in this ever changing world. All of the books in this project would enhance and support instruction in the classroom. These books are quality fiction and nonfiction books that will be used to develop basic language skills while expanding students' vocabularies. Additionally, these books will be used to help students think in new ways, develop critical thinking, expand their imagination, understand themselves, connect with other people, explore ethical and moral dilemmas, answer questions, and provide entertainment. Nonfiction texts will help students understand the world around them, including but not limited to countries, cultures, customs, the arts, religion, technology, math, science, our universe and beyond.

adult population reading any books has declined by 7 percent over the past decade." NEA, Reading at Risk These books can be used to help foster students' love of reading through improving basic reading skills, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
