it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My middle school students are thoughtful, creative, and full of curiosity. Many are English learners or emerging bilinguals who come from richly diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. I want all of them to see themselves in the books they read, not just as learners, but as heroes, problem-solvers, and storytellers.
The graphic novels I’m requesting include titles in both English and Spanish by authors from underrepresented backgrounds and these books will not only support reading comprehension and vocabulary development but also foster empathy, identity, and belonging.
Graphic novels offer a visual, accessible way for students at all reading levels to engage with powerful stories and complex ideas.
By creating a classroom library of inclusive graphic novels, I’m giving my students more than books. I’m giving them mirrors to see themselves, windows into other worlds, and doors to new opportunities. These books will be used in for enrichment, independent reading, and interdisciplinary projects that connect to all subjects.
With your support, we can make reading exciting, meaningful, and inclusive for every learner in our classroom.
