We have diverse learners in skills, socio-economic background, race, and exposure to science experiences. Many of our feeder elementary schools sacrificed science to focus on math and language arts scores, putting our students at a disadvantage in science education.
Our students' lack of science experience was compounded by Covid, as many students worked from home last year, limiting their science experiences to video clips produced at school instead of authentic, hands-on science education.
With assistance, we can provide even more hands-on experiences to enrich our students' science knowledge.
My Project
The Covid-19 pandemic has exposed some glaring problems with our population's understanding of health and the human body. Nevada science standard LS1.B explicitly covers the growth and development of organisms. In 12 years of teaching science, it has been my experience that there is no better way to engage middle school students with the human body than a 3D model with removable. Assembling and disassembling will allow students to understand better the physical structure and placement of organs and organ systems.
Unfortunately, our new school does not have any 3d models to help students understand the structure and function of the human body.
With your donation, I hope to spark and inspire student interest in anatomy and physiology and create lifelong science learners!
