My Students

I have 32 wonderful and bright students. They are all eager to learn many things in kindergarten. As a new teacher, I am motivated to bring new and exciting ideas into the classroom. I teach low-income students in a Chicago neighborhood. My school is great; unfortunately, it lacks the necessary funding that is greatly needed. The principal and the staff are great to work with. We all help each other in order to benefit student learning, which is most important to me as an educator. Without funding, the students are not given the accurate amount of supplies needed to complete the school year.

I teach ESL students reading, math, writing, social studies, and science.

My students love participating in centers for reading and math, but I would love to incorporate an art center filled with the right materials.

My Project

Children learn in many different ways, and younger children may not be ready to express themselves thoroughly with language. Art activities and art education in kindergarten and beyond are extremely important. Art is part of the human experience, and kindergarteners may enjoy looking at art, producing art, and expressing themselves through art projects. Each work of art creates a sense of achievement and personal expression in the artist.

In my kindergarten classroom, my students are free to express themselves in a variety of different ways, art being one of them.

With the ever so demanding CPS budget cuts, art is becoming a thing of the past in the kindergarten classroom. Teachers are forced to spend their own money to buy materials for their classrooms, which can become very costly. I am asking for donations to bring in a way for my children to express themselves using art during centers. The mobile unit acts as an art island where four or more can work. With classrooms, a center where four children can work at the same time is amazing! There's lots of storage between the easels and on the shelves for our classroom art materials. The art center features a durable, stain-resistant tough finish for little busy hands and hardboard easel panels for painting and drawing. It even includes clips and paint trays to hold the students' art materials.

With your help, my students could succeed in becoming unique, intelligent little people instead of form fitting learning robots! Thank you for all that you do for us!
