I teach 18 low income 4-year-old kindergartners in an urban school district. All of the students that attend my school receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. The students I work with are exposed to extreme amounts of violence and several have families that are unable to support them financially. These students are lacking the materials they need to be successful in the classroom, especially with our school district's tight budget. My students appreciate every donation our classroom receives and everything that comes into our classroom is put to good use.
My Project
My students need different materials such as glitter, paint, pom poms, crinkle strips, wiggly eyes, feathers, craft sticks, and other art supplies for creating art in the classroom. We currently do not have the funding this year for an art teacher so students do not have a designated art time this year. Therefore, I have taken on the role of teaching students through art integration. Our school district's focus this year, is the "Year of the Arts". Our current funding does not supply classroom teacher with art supplies, unfortunately.
Art materials in 4-year-old Kindergarten would allow students to learn through exploring their creativity and expressing themselves while integrating art in all subject areas.
Art materials would enrich my students learning while providing visual representation for the subjects being studies. We would also be able to create different seasonal art projects and different art pieces for our hallways displays.
Art integration would personalize learning for all students and allow students to think outside of the box. We appreciate every donation we receive and we will put the art materials to excellent use in our classroom.
