My students need books to read during independent reading, and so I can use them during guided reading lessons. The majority of these books are series which means I will be able to hook my students!
My students transform into life-long scholars in my classroom. What they believed they could not do, they quickly learn that they can do anything they set their mind to. This year they will learn reading strategies that will carry over from year to year, they will also learn how to work together in a group to meet a common goal.
My students are the embodiment of perseverance and grit.
They live in one of the most historically undeserved communities of DC and despite that so many odds are against them, they are students that want to learn and do well.
My Project
These books will allow my students to read real and authentic books. Currently, they are reading small, paper books that are not authentic. Many students believe they hate reading, but it is because they haven't been exposed to great reads- books that will hook them and change their belief about themselves as readers.
I will use these books daily during guided reading lessons.
Students will read them with me so I can support them to access the text, and then it will be added to their bag of books for independent reading. These books will impact not only my classroom but multiple classrooms in my school because once I have used them and my scholars have read them, I will let other teachers borrow them for his/ her students.
