My Students

My students attend a public Pre-K through 8th grade Montessori school in Cleveland, Ohio. Our school is comprised of students from all over our city, which has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation. Our Montessori students follow a child-centered approach with a goal to develop each child physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Students learn in multi-age classrooms and remain with the same teacher for several years.

Our computer lab is being relocated to the 1st floor and given additional space and we are ready to expand our learning.

The pandemic has helped close the technology gap by providing devices for every student and supplying hot spots to internet dead zones across the city. My students are bright and inquisitive and ready to learn. It is time for our middle schoolers to push forward with 21st-century skills.

My Project

Micro:bits are amazing! They're tiny handheld programmable computers that have small LED lights that can flash messages, motion sensors, and they can be hooked up to other devices through cables and Bluetooth technology. They can be used to do all sorts of things like power cameras, write words in lights, choose playlists, or control musical instruments.

Since the early '90s, every 7th-year student in Great Britain is given a Micro:bit and taught how to use it.

I'd like our students to have the same opportunity. The pandemic has finally helped put devices in their hands and forced them to become more proficient. We need to keep pushing to close gaps and open new opportunities.
