Everglades Literature Experience

Help me give my students books to help them learn about the Florida Everglades. We will be taking our students on a three-day adventure there and want them to be prepared!

My Students

As my fourth year at my school is starting, I have gotten to know this school and its heart. I was overwhelmed by the parents and students, and the drive they have to learn and support teachers and faculty. Our school is diverse in many ways. We have many different languages and religions represented. We have an extremely high population of ESE students, who require intensive reading and math intervention.

What I love about my school is that the families here love to learn, and the parents are instilling that in their students.

So each student, no matter where they are in their learning journey, is trying and working to be a better student.

My Project

Last year we took almost 40 fourth graders to the Everglades for a three-day field trip! It was a wonderful success. As we think about how we can make this trip even more full of facts and information about our ecosystems, we believe that immersing our student in rich literature is what we were missing.

We will be using these books to help build our students' knowledge before our trip.

They will use these books before, during and after our field trip, identifying the plants and animals native to our diverse state.

Some of the rich text that the students will be using will deal with invasive species, endangered animals, beach ecosystems, and our Native American influences. We will read, discuss, and write about what these books are saying and how they can be applied in real life!
