it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach an extraordinary group of middle school students in the Bronx. I believe that my students, and all students, have so much potential and I want to use that to enhance their future both inside and out of education. My students are very diverse, both in their variety of cultures, their needs and their learning styles which makes my job the best in the world.
My students constantly keep me on my toes and their curious minds teach me something new every day.
Most of my students are living in poverty, have insecure housing, or are either immigrants or first-generation Americans. Most of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and all of my students are exceptional individuals who show up each and every day, ready to learn.
My Project
As most people are aware, education has changed drastically in the past 7 months. The NYC DOE issued students/families iPads as a learning device. However, a lot of educators (including myself) are not familiar with the iPad interfaces and educational apps. As a result, when a student tells me they "don't know where that button is" or "cannot figure out how to submit the assignment" I have to guess! Therefore, a brand new iPad to be used in the classroom will be extremely helpful for me to see what my students can see and support them appropriately. Additionally, this iPad would support students without a device during our blended learning- after all, the expectation now is that students each have a device they can bring to and from school. This would also help me to manage attendance, video calls and live streams accordingly while using my school-provided computer for screen sharing.
