Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a mixed population of Hispanic, Native Americans, African Americans, and Caucasian. We are a Title 1 elementary school with 100% free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students come to school in the same clothes every day. Our students do not have an opportunity to experience extracurricular activities at home or outside of school. We do our best to bring current educational trends to our school to benefit our low-income students.

We are in desperate need of a new whole group carpet.

We currently have a alphabet carpet that has been used many years. Being first grade, and continuing our Eureka Math curriculum, I would like to give the students a math carpet they can use for whole group work as well as a reference for individual work.

We are also in need of high quality pencils. Ticonderoga pencils stay shapened and last more than a few days! An industrial electric pencil sharpener would be handy for writing pencils and colored pencils for graphs and pie charts.

My Project

A number grid activity carpet will aid in "hands on" and visual math activities that are used everyday in our Eureka Math curriculum.

Each student learns in his/her own mode of learning.

The number grid activity carpet will give students a choice in manipulatives, visual and tactil learning --- in their own way! Students need every opportunity in the classroom to become better learners! This activity carpet will allow students to work together as well as independently.

Ticonderoga pencils and a good electric pencil sharpener are a luxury BUT are necessary in cutting down "off task" interruptions and aid in classroom management.
