Ethnomusicologists in the Making Under Rock'n'Roll
Help me give my students a good set of headphones so they can become ethnomusicologists. They will use these headsets to learn how to professionally analyze music and write music reviews for our American History of Rock'n'Roll class.

My Project
I am teaching an elective course for the first time this year called American History of Rock'n'Roll. Already, it has become a high-demand semester class where we have students who are passionate about music and excited to take the course. An American History of Rock and Roll seeks to integrate the history of the United States with the past and progression of Rock and Roll. Students taking this class will be able to trace the history of Rock and Roll and understand its influences on major historical events within the United States. The class will cover issues of race, gender, age, and class and how Rock helped spur resistance in those areas to create equality. The course covers the history of the United States from the mid-1950s through a study of the progression of blues from its origins to its growth in rock and roll and related genres. Moreover, the class will aim to highlight the music and history of Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) in the US.
As part of the curriculum, other than developing their historical skills such as contextualization, sourcing, and corroboration, students will be asked to analyze music to understand historical movements/events in United States history.
Many students don't own a good set of headphones, nor does our school have enough in our budget to provide them. We would graciously appreciate donations to help us reach our goal so our students can learn US History through rock'n'roll music.
