This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"When you enter this classroom... You are scientists. You are explorers. You are artists. You are mathematicians. You are authors. You are important. You are respected. You are the reason why I am here."
This is what my students see every morning when they enter our classroom.
My class this year is full of creative, young minds that enjoy being challenged.
They look forward to coming to school every day and are particularly excited about math. Working at a Title 1 school, my students have very diverse backgrounds. They come to school every day looking for a safe and stable environment, ready to learn. They all receive free breakfast, lunch, and a snack to ensure that they are all getting the food they need because many families cannot afford it.
My Project
Because many students come from low-income households, they are not able to afford the necessary school supplies. We have already used all of the money allotted for school supplies this year (which wasn't a lot). We are now looking for alternative way to get these supplies so that our learning can continue. Because my class enjoys math so much and is constantly looking for a challenge, I have asked for additional math manipulatives to help make math even more engaging for them. I have also requested many supplies such as paper, pencils, and markers that we are desperate need of. These supplies are essential in our practice and help facilitate learning. Finally, I have asked for crates and filing folders to help organize our math and literacy centers. These organizational tools will greatly help our room. With them, I will be able to use more differentiation within the classroom, so students are always engaged and challenged.
With these resources I will be able to create a more engaging and organized classroom.
I will not have to limit my students learning and creativity because I do not have materials or resources for them to use. My students and I love our classroom and want to see it reach its full potential... We just need a little help to get there!
