This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There is no career that is more honorable and rewarding than a teacher. I am proud to know that I am preparing, teaching and inspiring the future. Young children learn through discovery and play with appropriate tools and materials.

My students are a diverse group of children who come from all cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds.

They are eager to learn and grow. This is their first time attending school and it is very rewarding for me to watch them develop. Despite their varying backgrounds, however, they all have amazing imaginations. They spend most of the day learning through play at the different centers in our class, but our creativity/art, math and science, and writing centers are lacking materials. Adding the easels, with all needed materials, puzzles, lacing activities and a writing center desk will enable children to take turns at the centers and work/play while developing their young minds.

My Project

I am requesting materials for our different centers. The children visit centers daily. Our creativity center is lacking the materials that are necessary for creative, inspiring experiences. We currently have materials such as colored paper, crayons, markers, scissors and glue. These are wonderful materials that they love to use but they would love to paint things for their parents and me. I may have a future artist in my class, and I don't even know it. Providing easels, paint brushes and paint cups would enable me to maximize their experience in the creativity center. We currently only have 10 puzzles in our math and science center. Some of the students are already bored of doing the same puzzles. Puzzles and lacing activities help develop their abstract, thinking. Our writing center currently consists of a shelf with clip boards. With a proper writing center, students could sit at a desk and try to write letters, recipes or messages to family and friends-another form of expression.

It is my responsibility to prepare my students for the future and to provide them with all materials needed to help express their creativity.

Creativity is both a skill set and a unique and individual character structure that is developed throughout childhood and fine-tuned in adolescence and adulthood. Education has a key role to play in its development. Positive creativity inspiring experiences at every stage of the educational journey are needed. This is especially true in early childhood.
