Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently a learning support teacher at a public school in Philadelphia, PA. However, next year I will be teaching an autism support class that will be opening at my school. Each student in this class will have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and will have an Individualized Education Program to help guide their instruction through differentiation, modifications, and accommodations in the classroom. The needs of my students will vary in many ways.
In order for my classroom to be successful there will be a number of materials to help engage my students, assist with their daily individualized routine and to met their academic and behavioral needs.
Setting up a new classroom can be expensive and the unique needs of these students creates an increase in materials and supplies needed. As a public school teacher, provided resources are limited and any help would be beneficial.
My Project
This project is made up for projects to help create and supports learning activities in my classroom. My class is a kindergarten level autistic support room. My students all have an IEP and greatly benefit from hands on activities. In order to be cost effective, creating activities is essential.
Laminating pouches and clothes pins can be used for many activities.
For example, I can create a letter matching game on my computer, laminate it so it does not get ruined and then the students will use the clothes pins to match the letters.
Other items such as magnetic file folder pockets and magnetic dry erase material holders will add to organization in the classroom. It is important to be organized and have materials in order while students are working in their centers, organization adds to a successful classroom where I can spend time working with my students rather than searching for materials.
