Please give my wonderful students the confidence to ask when they need something. These essential items such as underwear and socks are what we take for granted. All of my students live in a very low economic area in Staten Island, New York. They come in daily without socks, holes in their shoes, unwashed clothing, and yet they always try their best in school.
I would love to give them the opportunity to come to school feeling good about themselves and have these items at my disposal for them.
We continue to do this on an annual basis and as their PE teacher I feel it is my responsibility to look out for their physical, emotional, and mental health. Physical activity in the gym requires them to be comfortable in order to be active and this would help us so much. Most of the children in this situation are much younger and can’t vocalize what they always need. Whether it’s nourishment and a snack, it’s a new pair of socks that they can put inside their sneakers. Again , I asked for your help as the new school year will be beginning in a few weeks. In addition, the Gates Foundation has generously offered to match donor choose projects . With your help and their help we can start off this year successfully. I thank you in advance for your generosity
