Essential Supplies Needed for Deserving Special Education Students

My students need visual posters to guide their academic and social learning, snacks so that they never have to learn on an empty stomach, writing supplies, and basic skills workbooks.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Room 8 is a special education classroom located in a Title 1 (low income) school with a high EL population. All Room 8 students have mild to moderate disabilities including learning disabilities, attention issues, Autism, physical disabilities, and emotional disturbances.

Room 8 students are a perfect example of what relentless pursuit looks like.

It's not easy being a Room 8 student. Learning and progress can be slow and challenging. But regardless of their struggles, they still the continue to fight and push every day. They fight to learn, thrive socially, and grow emotionally just like their general education peers do.

My Room 8 students are by far the most special and unique children I have ever had the privilege of working with. They deserve to have a classroom filled with color, inspiration, warmth, and encouragement. They deserve to know that their teacher cares about them and that school is a safe place to learn and grow.

My Project

My students deserve the best classroom I can create for them.

Having these items in my classroom would completely change the atmosphere of my classroom.

I believe in surrounding my students with motivational words and encouragement. These supplies would heighten the learning and environment of my special education students. Visual posters help students with disabilities learn better, snacks help my students stay focused and engaged--- especially when they come to school on an empty stomach. Todd Parr social skills books teach my students different life stories and lessons, and basic skills workbooks help my students retain information they have learned. Small rewards and toys for the Room 8 ***PRIZE BOX*** help keep my challenging students motivated to learn and behave. New rugs and bean bag chairs will make a wonderful new reading area for the kids to enjoy reading!!!
