My Students

My students are learning Korean as their second language. Most of my students are not Korean. They are learning Korean to fulfill their foreign language credits in order to receive a high school diploma. I also teach second and third generation of Korean Americans.

My students come from all parts of Queens with various economic, education, cultural and language backgrounds.

They learn Korean language, culture and heritage in my class and we need a lot of resources since the city budget is very tight on education.

My Project

Writing is a crucial skill needed in Korean. Having all the writing tools-bound notebooks, pencils, pens, whiteouts, and markers readily available to my students will be able to ensure preparedness in this class.

The primary reason for this project is that most of my students don't bring a separate notebook for each subject so it gets disorganized by the end of September.

Furthermore, some of my students come from underprivileged families that lack the resources to supply their children with the supplies that they need.

One of the supplies that will be used on a daily basis would be the bound notebooks. A majority of my students are non-native Korean speakers and writing is very difficult for them. If this project gets funded, I will prepare the notebooks for the day's lesson and my students will write in these notebooks on a daily basis. A very nice effect that these notebooks will have is the journal-like role that it will serve. They will be able to see the progress they have made over the year: from struggling to write two sentences to independently writing paragraphs.

Therefore, with the other supplies, such as paper, markers, and pencils, I would be able to enrich my course and help my students be able to conclude the school year with a firm skillset to be used in future Korean courses and their lives.
