To ensure my students have every opportunity to succeed, I’ve launched a project to provide essential bathroom supplies, aiming to meet their diverse needs and empower them on their educational journey.
Hygiene isn’t just about cleanliness; it directly impacts a student’s ability to focus and engage in their studies.
By offering items like feminine pads, deodorant, lotion, hand sanitizer, chapstick, body soap, and more, I’m working to create an environment where students’ basic hygiene needs are met. This effort goes beyond improving sanitation—it’s about fostering a supportive atmosphere where students can thrive.
I undertook this project last year, and it truly made a difference. I heard a quote in a TEDx video that said, "It's hard to teach students who smell." Although said humorously, it struck a chord because it’s hard to ignore when students don’t have what they need. It’s also challenging for students to learn when they’re preoccupied with how others might perceive them. Your generous donations last year ensured that my students never had to worry about their hygiene needs—whether it was deodorant, menstrual products, or even something as simple as a hair tie. They didn’t have to focus on cracked lips or feeling unclean after using the bathroom.
This project allowed students to feel confident and comfortable in the classroom, freeing them to focus on learning. It helped build trust and strong relationships between my students and me, something they were deeply grateful for. I hope to continue this project year after year so that every student feels supported, valued, and ready to succeed in my classroom.
