Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are enrolled in the first public school on Staten Island that is exclusively dedicated to girls and gender-expansive youth, and they are currently facing a pressing need for essential hygiene products.
A significant number of these remarkable students come from underserved communities, which unfortunately means they often lack access to necessary hygiene items.
Additionally, many of my students are at a developmental stage where they are experiencing puberty, making the availability of these products even more crucial.
These hygiene items, which include soap, deodorant, hair care products, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, are sure to create a tremendous sense of joy among my students. Many of these children wear uniforms to school and frequently arrive with their clothes in less-than-ideal condition. Therefore, the detergent packets will be incredibly useful for ensuring their uniforms remain clean and presentable!
While some of our dedicated teachers have taken the initiative to purchase hygiene products and care packages for the students, the costs can quickly accumulate. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to make a more substantial impact by ensuring that students can take home essential supplies to support their health and well-being.
