This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is composed of 20 energetic children between the ages of 6 and 8. Each child is bursting with ideas, creativity, enthusiasm and love. We all come from different cultural backgrounds and from different socio-economic backgrounds. We learn differently and we have different opinions. Our differences make us a community that is reflective of the world. It is my honor to help strengthen our classroom community by helping each child learn about each other and about the world beyond our classroom doors.
My Project
My classroom is full of first grade students excited to read! Every day we work to develop the necessary skills needed to have every student reading grade-level texts by the end of the year. Our instruction guides students to understand and pay attention to sounds within words and then apply this understanding to the letters that represent these sounds. My students are becoming readers by learning a skill and then applying that skill in practice.
With decodable books, my students will have the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned during small group reading instruction into texts they can decode independently.
These sequenced decodable readers align to the curriculum we use to instruct our beginning readers. These books will provide all of our children with an opportunity to be a successful reader.
