My Students
Our high school opened in fall of 2018 on a newly renovated campus, which was completely destroyed in the Camp Fire. Our students have stepped up to lead projects, organize clubs, and even worked tirelessly over the summer to help put together their own high school. They painted their own classrooms, built their own desks, decorated and organized their own gym, and were active during their summer break to renovate their campus.
We have incredibly talented and resilient students, who have lost everything in the Camp Fire in November.
Our students have demonstrated incredible strength of character, and have come to school with a smile on their faces even when they are sleeping on couches, living in trailers, or staying in hotels or with friends. Some of our students are travelling over an hour to be in school with our amazing staff and other students.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and school experiences, and have flocked to our fledgling high school in Paradise to participate in our Entrepreneurship and Technology Pathways. We offer a full inclusion model for our students, and have a high proportion of our students as members of our special education program.
My Project
Our students were some of the first in all of Butte County to begin participating in Esports. We fielded our first team in September of 2018 and had gaming computers donated to our program. Our students enjoyed participating and competing against other schools, and were drawn to our program partially because we were offering Esports.
Unfortunately our Esports computers and peripherals were lost in the Camp Fire in Paradise in November.
Generous donors from Donors Choose have already helped get some computers to start, and we could still use the additional help getting things up and running at 100% capacity.
Our school is looking to restart our Esports program and needs computers to make it happen. Some of our disenfranchised youth said that Esports was why they came to school, and our Visual and Performing arts classes would love the additional technology to be available to them.
