I'd like to reward my students for their hard work by giving them high-quality materials to write and create visuals to accompany their writing. Many of my students do not come to school with supplies when they are new to the country, and I try to always provide them with what they need to not hinder learning.
In addition to explicit language instruction and ESL strategies, my students work on their classwork in ESL.
I've created a cozy living room space with the couches, rug, and reading pillows so that students are motivated and comfortable to do the hard work of learning a 2nd language...English! Since creating the ESL living room, ESL students have been excited to come to the room and are motivated to sit in their preferred seating areas! The only issue is that sometimes they come to the room without writing or illustration materials, or they don't have what they need in their regular classrooms.
My students love surprises and rewards, so I can not wait to see their reaction to the new materials and art supplies, along with the progress they make in English after we have them!
