Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners in a Spanish developmental bilingual program, which means that they are exposed to listening and speaking in English, but learn Spanish reading and writing first. These students transition into English reading and writing in second grade. My students attend one of the largest public elementary schools in Wisconsin, with nearly 700 students, 98% of whom qualify for free and reduced-price lunches. As the second and third grade English as a Second Language Teacher, I help to bridge Spanish and English Literacy.
If you were to enter my classroom, you would hear students speaking primarily in Spanish, but as I enter the room students begin to shift to English!
They are bridging two languages to become future leaders in an ever-changing world and I will do all that I can to support them.
My Project
My English Learners have received many amazing materials and supplies from the generosity of Donor's Choose donors. We need more organization in order to make the materials more accessible for the students.
These storage cabinets will organize our ESL materials!
They will make such a difference in the classroom environment.
Our well-organized classroom will show my English Learners that learning is important. I will know exactly where the materials and activities are for each lesson I am teaching. The students will be able to choose work stations and activities independently. An organized space is not only more efficient, it is calming!
